MIDDLETOWN     WRESTLING

Nauman finishes 2nd in NHSCA senior national wrestling tournament in Virginia Beach.  Kellen Russell was able to get by Tyler on his third attempt, 5-3 in the finals.

3/25/07 - Tyler defeats Kellen Russell of Blair Academy, NJ 9-5 at the Dapper Dan Classic in Pittsburgh.

Tyler, also won Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament.

The 130-pound weight class was next, and it was a rematch of the Beast of the East final. Like at 171, the same outcome occurred, as state champion Tyler Nauman (Middletown) defeated three-time National Prep champion Kellen Russell (Blair Academy NJ) by a 9-5 score. The match was tied at 3-3 after two periods - as Nauman scored on a takedown and escape, with Russell scoring on an escape and a reversal. In the last period, Nauman chose the down position, and was able to escape the cross-body ride of Russell. Right after that escape, he pancaked Russell for a takedown to take a 6-3 lead. Then, right off of that takedown, he secured a standing tilt and turned Russell for two near fall points. Russell was able to score a reversal off of that tilt. But with the score 8-5 in favor of Nauman, Russell cut him loose. That 9-5 margin would be the final score, as Nauman secured Outstanding Wrestler honors for the Pennsylvania team with that victory.

Middletown's 1st State Champ, Tyler Nauman, leads Blue Raiders to 4th place finish in Team Scoring.  Also, Tyler was named Outstanding Wrestler for the Tournament.

Other State qualifiers:  Chris Bailes, 4th place-Chris Kochinsky, 4th place-Josh Long, and 5th place-Brandon Miller

Congratulations to all Blue Raiders on an outstanding season!!
